Heifer International Assisted in Relief Efforts in Guatemala
Employed for more than a decade with Abbott Laboratories, Inc., based out of Chicago, Illinois, Zariq Siddiqui serves as nutrition products sales director. Zariq Siddiqui supports several nonprofit organizations, one of which is Heifer International.
A global organization, Heifer International works with communities to end world poverty and hunger. Farmer and member of the Church of the Brethren Dan West founded the organization more than 70 years ago. He served as an aid worker in the Spanish Civil War and believed that providing help to people via the philosophy, “teach a man to fish,” was beneficial. Today the organization uses that belief in empowering people with the capacity to help themselves.
In early June 2018, Heifer International announced that it assisted in relief efforts in Guatemala during the volcanic eruption. When the deadliest eruption of the Volcano of Fire in four decades occurred, at least 75 people died and than one million were affected. Heifer Guatemala provided humanitarian support to those communities, donating 100 beds and securing mobile aid to other partners in the area helping with relief efforts.
